The Drowned Boy This is a very good book! It makes the reader think hard about tough issues. Any honest parent having to deal with crying babies all night can relate, even mature and compassionate parents. I was glad for poetic justice but still felt great sadness for the tragedies, and children having children/5(33). Winner of the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction, Jerry Gabriel’s debut collection, Drowned Boy, does for Moraine, Ohio, what Sherwood Anderson did for Winesburg nearly ninety years more, Ohio is imbued with a literary life, though this time, Winesburg’s George Willard isn’t the town’s moral center, but Moraine’s Nate Holland, instead.

A tightly woven tale in spare but piercing prose * Metro * Nordic noir of note * GQ * A simple but gripping story, balanced, believable and compassionate, about a sensitive subject -- Laura Wilson * Guardian * Fossum's Inspector Sejer novels are invariably morally and psychologically complex affairs, but The Drowned Boy might well be her crowning achievement to date -- Declan Burke * Irish /5(K). The Drowned Boy (Book): Fossum, Karin: "Carmen and Nicolai failed to resuscitate their son, Tommy, after finding him floating in their backyard pond. When Inspector Skarre arrives on the scene, Carmen reports that Tommy, a healthy toddler with Down syndrome, wandered into the garden while Nicolai was working in the basement and she was cleaning the house.

Dennis Carl Wilson (December 4, – Decem ) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded the Beach is best remembered as their drummer and as the middle brother of bandmates Brian and Carl was the only true surfer in the Beach Boys, and his personal life exemplified the "California Myth" that the band's early songs often celebrated. The addition of a complex moral issue makes THE DROWNED BOY a book that simply cannot be missed. "One almost forgets that Sejer is a fictional character, so when he has troubles such as those that occur in this latest installment, one feels honest concern.
